About Me, Stephen Howden

I was born and brought up in Leeds. After leaving school I worked for Skyviews and General and did City and Guilds Photography on Day Release. For over ten years I worked for Professional Photographers as a Photographic Technician. The pay in this industry is poor so I went to work for Kodak Processing. For the first eighteen months I was in training as a Quality Controller with the understanding that when a position became available I would move Laborattory.

A position for a Quality Controller came up at Hither Green, London SE13. My wife, Christine and I moved to Live Falconwood. Suddenly I had a huge garden. My next door neighbour suggested I join Falconwood Horticultural Society, the get free advice and materials for the garden. The year after I joined the committee, then in 1985 I became their Secretary.

In 2000 I set up a website for the Horticultural Society. I arranged a visit to Riverside Fuchsias. That evening another group was there sharing the evening. It was then I discovered Oddfellows. The next day I found them on the internet and then joined as soon as possible.

There is not enough spare time to go to the many Oddfellow events and meetings and work for the horticultural society. I made the decision to move over to Oddfellowship but still ran the Website for the Falconwood Horticultural Society until their AGM 16 March 2005 where they decided to run their own site.

Contained within this site is photos of the area I come from, the negatives of which I have given to Leeds City Council archives, Photos from my family dating back over 100 years, photos from Falconwood events and more recently from Oddfellow Events.

I would recommend Oddfellows to all.
